Generic Harvoni in India

The new pill (Sofosbuvir and Ledipasvir in one tablet) is the new hope for people in many countries that cannot afford the branded medicine. Gilead has signed agreements with a couple of pharmaceuticals companies in India to license them to produce a generic version of the Harvoni medicine. The process is running and expectations are that before the end of 2015 the Indian government will issue the permits to manufacture the generic version.

Many speculations has risen about the price, but the entire treatment of three months is expected to get into the market for a price around $1,000.

Among the companies that were licensed to produce the medicine is Natco from India that will be allowed to sell the medicines in 91 countries. The license also includes the generic version of Sovaldi (Sofosbuvir).

The generic version will help many health systems, especially in developing countries that find almost impossible to pay the medicine at the current prices for the branded version.
